Caring for the Caregiver: Protecting from Compassion Fatigue, Vicarious Trauma and Burnout

This workshop is a combination of Caring for the Professional Caregiver, Vicarious Trauma as well as themes around burnout and compassion fatigue.

Whether it is a friend, family member, or client/patient, caring for vulnerable populations can be difficult. Worry, dealing with the other's overwhelming situation and being witness to tragic circumstances can be emotionally taxing. The consequences may include compassion fatigue, emotional detachment and vicarious trauma. What can add to the stress are systemic issues including lack of services, funding and increased wait times.  Sometimes the one we're caring for can become quite difficult themselves, leading to caregiver resentment and burnout.

Whatever the issue, if you are struggling with providing support to others personally or professionally this workshop should generate ideas to survive and thrive in this situation.
