Step 2 Application Form

Step 2 Breastfeeding Essentials is a 22-hour course with a curriculum based on the 7 competency domains of the Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative® (BFHI). Step 2 is an asynchronous online course. Prior to applying, staff members should engage in a discussion with their managers regarding course registration, ensuring alignment on expectations related to course completion. This discussion should include details such as whether the course will be completed during work hours or independently and any arrangements for taking time back in return. If you have already completed the 20 Hour WHO course or the Douglas College 12-week breastfeeding course, you are not required to complete Step 2.

Eligibility for Registration

  1. Regional Lead that will support training and mentoring
  2. Existing staff that have no formal breastfeeding education
  3. New staff with no formal breastfeeding education
  4. Existing staff that have prior breastfeeding education but have self-identified or been identified as needing a refresher

Each applicant’s information will be reviewed for priority.  Priority is listed from 1-4 above, in descending order. Once the candidates are selected, their information will be sent to MB Health, who will then forward it to the Step 2 vendor. Subsequently, registrants will receive email notifications from Step 2, containing all the necessary instructions for accessing the course.

Staff will have 60 days to complete the online course component. It is important for registrants to manage their time effectively and complete the course within the given timeframe. There will be no extensions. Only one seat per staff member will be purchased.  A certificate of completion will be available for download after staff have completed the online course.

If you have questions, please connect with Deanne Noseworthy, CNS, or Amy Siaux, HPECD Coordinator.
