Licensed Practical Nurse
What is a licensed practical nurse? The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba answers that question:
“ Licensed practical nurses are regulated health care professionals who provide nursing care to clients in variety of health care settings. They practice as members of interprofessional teams and autonomously. They are fully responsible for the care they provide.
Licensed Practical Nurses are
- trained in the theory and practice of nursing
- registered, following confirmation that they meet the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba’s requirements for professional practice
- bound by standards of professional and ethical practice, and
- accountable for maintaining and building their professional nursing competence throughout their career.”
There are currently three educational institutions approved by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba to offer practical nursing programs in Manitoba: Assiniboine Community College, Université Saint-Boniface (French language program) and University College of the North.
